IN DECEMBER YORKSHIRE-BASED FOLK-CROSSOVER SINGER KATE RUSBY WILL PLAY HER NOW TRADITIONAL RUN OF WINTER WARMER FESTIVE DATES.
For several years Kate has headed out on a pre-Christmas tour, performing a special set-list made up of songs from both of her highly acclaimed seasonal albums – WHILE MORTALS SLEEP and SWEET BELLS. Steeped in her local traditions, Kate showcases new variations on the carols and songs she learned during her childhood in and around South Yorkshire, alongside a selection of favourites from her twenty year back catalogue. This year she’ll also be playing tracks from new album GHOST.
Perhaps the defining voice of contemporary English folk music, since 1997 debut HOURGLASS Kate Rusby’s exquisite interpretations of traditional songs and her finely wrought self-penned tunes have won her an audience stretching beyond her genre; a rare achievement for a folk artist – but entirely understandable given her distinctive and expressive vocals which invest whatever she sings an with irresistible emotional depth. She’s won four BBC Folk Awards from six nominations, has headlined Cambridge Folk Festival on several occasions, had a special 20th Anniversary show broadcast live on Radio 2, and seen her music featured as integral parts of Jennifer Saunders’ sitcom JAM AND JERUSALEM and Michael Sheen film HEARTLANDS.
This Christmas, as ever, she’ll be joined on stage by the cream of British folk players; husband Damien O’Kane on guitars and banjo, Nick Cooke on melodeon, Aaron Jones on guitar and bouzouki and Duncan Lyall on double bass.
Courtesy of Kate and her team at Pure Records, we have a pair of guest list tickets to give away. There are two Yorkshire concerts to choose from; Friday 5th December at SHEFFIELD City Hall OR the Barbican in YORK on Friday 12th December.
