BEANS ON TOAST

A SPANNER IN THE WORKS IS THE NEW ALBUM FROM YOUR FAVOURITE ‘DRUNKEN FOLK SINGER’ BEANS ON TOAST. AS IS CUSTOMARY WITH BEANS, IT’S OUT ON DECEMBER 1ST.

spannerAs the title suggests, the new album sees the folk-punk artist venture down a slightly different musical avenue. Beans opted to record A SPANNER IN THE WORKS entirely on his friend’s laptop over the course of one weekend. Still rooted heavily in a DIY aesthetic at heart, the album introduces electronic samples and synthesised loops into the sound. A SPANNER IN THE WORKS kicks off with the song 2016, lulling the listener in with a teasing taste of the familiar – it’s the only song on the record to feature any guitar. An ode to the mood of the country (with celebrity deaths, terror threats, the referendum and the worrying rise of fascism), the track’s conscious lyrics see Beans trying to make sense of a tumultuous year. In this new edition of The Mouthcast (recorded just a couple of days before the result of the US Presidential election) Beans talks about 2016, reflects on his career to date and discusses the scary potential of a world bossed by Donald Trump…
