HOWARD JONES

IN NOVEMBER CHERRY RED WILL RELEASE DELUXE EDITIONS OF HUMAN’S LIB AND DREAM INTO ACTION – THE FIRST TWO ALBUMS BY HOWARD JONES. FOR THE TWO YEARS AROUND THEIR ORIGINAL RELEASE, BETWEEN 1984 AND ’86, JONES COULD DO NO WRONG – COMMERCIALLY AT LEAST. HE ENJOYED A RUN OF MAJOR HIT SINGLES INCLUDING NEW SONG, WHAT IS LOVE, PEARL IN THE SHELL, THINGS CAN ONLY GET BETTER AND NO-ONE IS TO BLAME, AND HUMAN’S LIB ENTERED THE CHART AT NUMBER ONE.
Recognising – and making of a virtue of the fact – that he was never a particularly ‘cool’ proposition for the inky end of the music press, Jones concentrated his sharp pop sensibilities and his philosophical message of positivity and personal development on a captivated teenage audience. To celebrate the new box sets (which both contain a wealth of previously unreleased archive material), in this extended new edition of The Mouthcast, we talk about his journey from DIY pub gigs to getting a record deal and the making of HUMAN’S LIB and DREAM INTO ACTION…
