MULTI-AWARD WINNING PRODUCER EXTRAORDINAIRE MARTIN GLOVER – AKA YOUTH – HAS PROBABLY THE MOST DIVERSE CONTACTS BOOK IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY. IT’S ALMOST RIDICULOUS…
He’s collaborated with Paul McCartney, and has produced Pink Floyd, James, Jesus & Mary Chain, The Verve, Dido, Beth Orton, The Orb, Crowded House, Shack, The Charlatans and Embrace – and many more. He’s been a remixer of choice for U2, INXS, Guns ‘n’ Roses, Marc Almond, Marilyn Manson, Edwyn Collins, Erasure, Depeche Mode, Siouxsie And The Banshees and The Sugarcubes – and many more. He played a notable session for Kate Bush on her classic HOUNDS OF LOVE album and is also, of course, bass player in post-punk band Killing Joke. In addition he’s worked alongside The KLF’s Jimmy Cauty and studio / songwriting team Stock, Aitken & Waterman as the band Brilliant. As a label guru he’s been responsible for pioneering Goa Trance, Ambient and Chillout in the UK and, now, is launching new global beats venture Suriya Recordings (in a special partnership with PRSSV Institute of Performing Arts and Heritage, a charitable organisation based in London, and United Sound Entertainment). Suriya is dedicated to experimenting with beats, ambient, trance, dub, electronica and traditional sounds across different cultures from around the world, and it celebrates music and artists across continents; extending the possibilities of traditional, ancient instrumentation and vocals – all via Youth’s unique sonic alchemy. In this new edition of The Mouthcast, Youth discusses his motivation in launching Suriya. He also looks back at some of his production work (including The Fireman project with McCartney and Pink Floyd’s final album THE ENDLESS RIVER), discussing how it’s managed in relation to the ego of the artist, and what his responsibilities are in guiding top quality names to some of their finest and most famous work…
