THE WEDDING PRESENT : LIVE 2018

IN EARLY AUGUST THIS YEAR ‘SEMI-LEGENDARY’ BAND THE WEDDING PRESENT PLAYED A SHOWCASE GIG FOR THE MOUTH MAGAZINE, FINALLY VISITING SCUNTHORPE – A SMALL NORTHERN INDUSTRIAL TOWN NOT TOO FAR FROM LEEDS, WHERE THE BAND HAD FORMED IN THE EARLY-TO-MID 1980s.

Those early days – and the genesis of The Wedding Present’s seminal 1987 debut album GEORGE BEST – are explored in the new documentary SOMETHING LEFT BEHIND. To read our interview with director / producer Andrew Jezard, and to hear David Gedge discuss the GEORGE BEST album, our feature from 2017 is here… With full cooperation from long-standing frontman and figurehead Gedge, Jezard’s film begins on the streets and in the pubs and rehearsal rooms of LS6, Leeds, and tracks The Wedding Present’s progression. Through exclusive access to Gedge’s personal / band archive there is a wealth of old and publicly unseen footage (some of it poignant), and there are interviews with former band members, friends and fans (some famous). SOMETHING LEFT BEHIND passionately celebrates the enduring legacy of a record rightly regarded as ‘an indie classic’…

This new edition of The Mouthcast features a recording of the band’s set at their Mouth Magazine gig. You’ll hear one or two songs from GEORGE BEST (plus, classic single MY FAVOURITE DRESS features in the two song video session filmed after soundcheck). It’s almost ‘a dream set-list’ as the band dip into their extensive repertoire and pull out hit singles, rare b-sides, classic album tracks and one or two forgotten gems – virtually a connoisseur’s ‘best of’ set, in front of a packed venue…
