This rustic and retro-tinged collection represented a stride forward for Stephenson – but it was, in many ways, completely out of step with its times. The album was characterised by highly assured though modest and unassuming songwriting, and aligned it with classic forms and organic instrumentation. For its thirtieth anniversary GLADSOME, HUMOUR & BLUE has been re-recorded (with release due in the very near future) and Stephenson is undertaking a series of intimate dates to celebrate.
