DOOLITTLE 25 WILL BE RELEASED ON 1ST DECEMBER 2014. IT COLLECTS TOGETHER ALL OF THE B-SIDES, PEEL SESSIONS AND DEMOS ASSOCIATED WITH THE SECOND FULL-LENGTH ALBUM FROM THE PIXIES, CELEBRATING A QUARTER CENTURY OF THE BOSTON NOISEMAKERS’ BIGGEST RELEASE.
With almost half of the material on DOOLITTLE 25 having not been commercially released before, this new deluxe triple CD edition of the band’s 1989 masterpiece contains an impressive 50 tracks. The original album accounts for disc one, with two full BBC Radio 1 John Peel Sessions (October 1988 and April 1989) plus six single b-sides on the second disc, and the complete album in original demo form (plus seven bonus tracks) on the third. A gatefold double vinyl version is also being released, with two pieces of 180g black vinyl being pressed. The first contains six b-sides and the two full John Peel Sessions, the second being the album in complete demo form plus three bonus tracks. A download card is included, offering access to all LP tracks plus four more bonus tracks. Like all other Pixies sleeves before it, Vaughan Oliver returns to reinterpret his iconic original design using Simon Larbalestier’s photographs to create a stunning triple card wallet design, printed in metallic ink.
Originally released on 4AD during April 1989, DOOLITTLE’s dark surrealist heart (with references throughout to Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dalí’s troubling 1929 film UN CHIEN ANDALOU, suicide, torture, numerology, environmentalism and the Bible) beats at exciting odds with the accomplished production of Gil Norton. Featuring singles MONKEY GONE TO HEAVEN and HERE COMES YOUR MAN alongside classic tracks WAVE OF MUTILATION, GOUGE AWAY and DEBASER (which was itself eventually released as a single, to promote the DEATH TO THE PIXIES compilation in 1997), DOOLITTLE elevated the band far beyond the cult status of 1988’s full-length debut album SURFER ROSA and formative 1987 EP COME ON PILGRIM. Pre-order the various editions of DOOLITTLE 25 here, along with exclusive t-shirt bundles (for a limited period).
