YORK-BASED CHRIS HELME CAN PROBABLY NOW BE CONSIDERED A VETERAN OF GALTRES PARKLANDS FESTIVAL, HAVING APPEARED EVERY YEAR OVER THE LAST HALF-DECADE. THIS TIME HE PLAYED TWICE.
In this new edition of The Mouthcast, recorded in a marquee tent on a busy backstage production track – so (don’t) listen out for the occasional jeep trundling past, or metal band soundchecking nearby – Helme and loyal bass player Stuart Fletcher discuss the festival.
They also look back at time spent in The Seahorses – the band put together by guitarist John Squire in 1996, after he’d left The Stone Roses. DO IT YOURSELF – the lone album by The Seahorses, issued in mid-1997 – was produced by Tony Visconti, and Helme reflects on working with him.
Following the acrimonious collapse of the group Helme formed The Yards, before concentrating efforts on two solo albums; ASHES (2008) and THE ROOKERY (2012)… As he reveals here, a third may be on the way sooner rather than later…
