THE FIRST TWO ECHOBELLY ALBUMS WILL BE REISSUED AS DELUXE DOUBLE DISC EDITIONS THIS COMING JULY.
New versions of 1994’s EVERYONE’S GOT ONE and the 1995 follow-up ON have been curated by 3Loop Records in association with Echobelly songwriters Glenn Johannson and Sonya Aurora Madan, who have compiled a wealth of bonus material.
Each release contains key b-sides and unreleased material – including some of the band’s BBC Radio 1 Sessions. EVERYONE’S GOT ONE includes tracks from Echobelly’s debut EP BELLYACHE, alongside the Steve Lamacq Evening Session performed in February 1994. ON contains a concert recording from the September 1995 show in New York City alongside a session recorded for the John Peel show in April of that same year.
Debut EVERYONE’S GOT ONE was released just as the Britpop movement was taking off, and crashed into the UK Top 10 courtesy of blistering singles INSOMNIAC, I CAN’T IMAGINE THE WORLD WITHOUT ME, BELLYACHE and CLOSE, BUT… The band was invited to open for REM (who also cited Echobelly’s debut as an influence on their own album MONSTER), Madonna tried to sign them to her label, and Morrissey went on record as a fan. A year later the band suffered no ‘difficult second album’ syndrome and issued ON, which went UK Top 5, and contained the hits trio GREAT THINGS, DARK THERAPY and KING OF THE KERB.
Both albums will be re-issued by 3Loop on 21st July 2014. Pre-order here (all pre-orders will be signed). Sonya and Glenn featured in an edition of The Mouthcast recorded last summer in York during the afternoon of a show on their brief acoustic tour. Listen again here.
