CHRIS DIFFORD’S LYRICS AND GLENN TILBROOK’S MUSIC HAVE PREVAILED THROUGH TURBULENT TIMES IN THE PAST FORTY YEARS; FROM THE CONSTANTLY CHANGING MUSICAL LANDSCAPE TO THEIR OWN INTERNAL RESHUFFLES AND THE ACRIMONIOUS BREAK-UP OF SQUEEZE.
The duo’s new tour – THE AT ODDS COUPLE – will see them reflecting on their careers as part of Squeeze and as solo artists, and they will be giving an insight into what makes them tick as a partnership as well as sharing the music. “There’s lots of history and myth to our relationship,” explains Difford. “There have been times when we’ve not got on and we’ve not communicated. No relationship is plain sailing – whether it be personal or work – but over the years we’ve come to understand our differences; and similarities”. Tilbrook adds: “The last few years have been interesting. We’ve talked more than eve, and reflected on our relationship and it’s brought us to this point”.
THE AT ODDS COUPLE tour will see them performing a selection of Squeeze hits, including UP THE JUNCTION and COOL FOR CATS, but Tilbrook and Difford will also be dusting down some previously unrecorded songs that were written together back in the band’s infancy, as well as playing tracks from their solo careers.
In 2010 Squeeze’s contribution to music was noted with the site of the band’s first gig being awarded a PRS For Music Heritage Plaque. It joined an ever-increasing list of accolades which includes an Ivor Novello for Outstanding Contribution to British Music, and Icon awards from both Mojo Magazine and Nordoff-Robbins.
Difford’s ying to Tilbrook’s yang, Glenn’s chalk to Chris’s cheese, THE AT ODDS COUPLE will be in the spotlight and under the microscope like never before… Glenn Tilbrook recently recorded an edition of The Mouthcast which was published in January (listen again here), and also performed an exclusive Session – including the enduring Squeeze classic UP THE JUNCTION.
