KATE RUSBY: autumn tour

YORKSHIRE-BORN FOLK MUSICIAN KATE RUSBY – CELEBRATING 21 YEARS OF PROFESSIONAL MUSIC MAKING – IS ABOUT TO BEGIN AN AUTUMN TOUR.
kate rusby sqKate’s second album SLEEPLESS was nominated for a Mercury Prize in 1999, she’s won four BBC Folk Awards from six nominations, has headlined Cambridge Folk Festival on several occasions, had a special 20th Anniversary show broadcast live on Radio 2, and seen her music featured as an integral part of Jennifer Saunders’ sitcom JAM AND JERUSALEM and of Michael Sheen film HEARTLANDS. Her regular UK tours consistently play to sold-out venues.
Kate is about to embark on a run of live dates through September, October and November (see details below) and, as ever, she’ll be joined on stage by the cream of British folk players; husband Damien O’Kane on guitars and banjo, Nick Cooke on melodeon, Aaron Jones on guitar and bouzouki and Duncan Lyall on double bass.
A remarkable interpretive singer, Kate’s vocals inhabit a lyric with an unforced conviction, no matter how old or how modern the song. She has a rare ability to transport an audience as much with her readings of ancient folk favourites as with her own self-penned folk-influenced material. MAKE THE LIGHT (2010) was a bold step forward, being the first full album she’d released comprised entirely of songs she’d written. Last year’s double-disc retrospective collection of celebratory re-recordings – 20 – was packed with admiring guests from across several genres (including Paul Weller, Stephen Fretwell, Radiohead’s Philip Selway and Sara Jarosz), highlighting Kate’s broad crossover appeal.

Courtesy of Kate and her team at Pure Records, we have a pair of spots on the guest list to give away for the concert at The Baths Hall in Scunthorpe on Thursday 7th November or  the concert at the Barbican in York on Friday 8th November. We also have Kate Rusby CDs up for grabs. Email themouthmagazine@rocketmail.com with your subject line as either KRCD (for CDs) or KRTKTS (for tickets – remembering to state which gig you would prefer to attend).
