ANNA CALVI : new album

ANNA CALVI’S STRIKING MERCURY NOMINATED 2011 ALBUM WAS A CINEMATIC TEMPEST, ONE OF THE MOST WELL-DEFINED DEBUT STATEMENTS OF ITS TIME.
calvi 1The intense and fiery flourishes of that first outing remain for forthcoming follow-up ONE BREATH – but the second album, written in the year following the success of the first, is a more personal record which reveals a wider spectrum of textures and emotion.
Reflective and sometimes vulnerable, it strikes a balance between optimism and despair, beauty and ugliness. “ONE BREATH is the moment before you’ve got to open yourself up, and it’s about how terrifying that is,” says Calvi. “It’s scary and it’s thrilling. It’s also full of hope, because whatever has to happen hasn’t happened yet…”
The eleven track ONE BREATH – produced by John Congleton and performed by Calvi with Daniel Maiden-Wood on drums and Molly Harpaz on harmonium and tuned percussion – will be released by Domino on 7th October. The first 500 CDs direct from Domino (here) will be signed by Calvi, and there will also be a gatefold
heavyweight vinyl edition with a bonus 7″ containing two exclusive bonus tracks and a limited edition print.
A trailer for the album, by long-time collaborator Emma Nathan, has been released (below).
