GALTRES pays tribute to John Martyn

THE AUGUST BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND SEES NORTH YORKSHIRE VILLAGE CRAYKE HOST ONE OF THE FESTIVAL SEASON’S PERFECT-SIZED EVENTS.
The Galtres Festival began modestly, eight years ago at the back of a pub in the village, but since then it has grown to become a genuine highpoint of the outdoor music lover’s year.
Between Friday 24th and Sunday 26th August over a hundred bands will perform across seven stages – and there are plenty of other activities and events to keep everyone happy.
The Mouth Magazine asked Festival Director James Houston what he expects this year’s highlights to be.
“The night cabarets will feature some weird and wonderful acts… but the jousting tournament by The Knights of the Damned will be a pretty spectacular part of this year’s Dragons & Knights theme… as will the dragon procession through the site… It’ll be mind-blowing!”
As ever, Crayke will play host to some exceptional talent for the weekend – including Adam Ant, Buzzcocks, Seth Lakeman, Billy Bragg, Ash, Ocean Colour Scene, Mark Morriss and Martin Stephenson – but there are lots of smaller bands, and local acts, also on the bill.

Fossil Collective and Horse Guards Parade are not to be missed”, says James, “but one of the most special parts of the festival will be the SOLID AIR Sessions, put together to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the recording of John Martyn’s seminal album. We’ve got together some of the most amazing guitarists in the country, headlined by Jon Gomm, for this unique event”.

The Mouth Magazine has been invited by the organisers to cover the festival, and plans are afoot to bring you a couple of podcasts, featuring some very special guests, and perhaps even one or two exclusive performances, direct from the site.
