PETER HOOK

IN 2010 PETER HOOK FORMED THE LIGHT – A GROUP WHOSE RESPECTFUL READINGS OF MATERIAL BY HIS FORMER BANDS JOY DIVISION AND NEW ORDER HAVE WON CRITICAL ACCLAIM.

LOW LIFEIn 2010 Peter Hook, bass-playing founder member of Joy Divison and New Order, found himself ostracised when – without him – singer Bernard Sumner put together a band under the name New Order and began touring. It was a wound which cut Hook deep – legal proceedings over the rights to the use of the name, and to the finances of the band, continue to this day. It’s a sad and bitter chapter in an often scarcely believable story which, of course, began began in Salford in the late 1970s… In 2010 Peter Hook formed The Light; a new group LOW LIFE 2which saw him step up to the role of frontman, and whose respectful readings of his former bands’ material has gained critical acclaim. An EP was issued in 2011, featuring new versions of familiar Joy Division favourites alongside a previously unrecorded song. Hook and The Light tour constantly, every show a presentation of albums from either of his previous groups, each played in its entirety alongside other back catalogue cuts. Later this month The Light tour New Order’s LOW LIFE and BROTHERHOOD albums (see below for dates) and, in this new edition of The Mouthcast, Hook discusses both…
