PETER GABRIEL IS ABOUT TO ISSUE A BOXED-UP VERSION OF 1986 ALBUM SO. ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED TO BE RELEASED ON THE 25th ANNIVERSARY, THIS CAREFULLY CURATED AND BEAUTIFULLY PRESENTED SET FINALLY SEES THE LIGHT OF DAY THIS COMING WEEK. 
Alongside an involving hardback book covering the making of what has become Gabriel’s career-defining album (certainly his biggest seller) and a couple of DVDs – a documentary and live set from the 1987 tour – the original album has been painstakingly remastered to sound as crisp as if it had been recorded yesterday. Hits SLEDGEHAMMER, BIG TIME and DON’T GIVE UP – plus the rest – are polished to give new leases of life.
Perhaps, though, the most interesting part of the whole package is SO DNA, an exploration of Gabriel’s writing and recording processes in the form of a CD of early home demos, tentative band rehearsals and studio refashionings for each song.
